Pictures in the Moon
The Moon moves round the Earth. At night the Moon is bright because the Sun shines on it. The Moon has dark patches — very large craters. People who look at the Moon think they can see pictures. People in Europe see a face of a man. They call it “the man in the Moon». Children in China and Thailand see “the rabbit in the Moon». A Hindu (индусский) word for the Moon means «marked with the hare”. The ancient Greeks saw the head of a woman in the Moon. They thought it was Selene — the goddess of the Moon. People in Africa told stories about the Moon goddess Olapa.
